Background information
At 1,400 metres, right at the foot of the Hochkönig, lies the Bergrefugium Birgkar. In Mühlbach am Hochkönig, the Burgschwaiger family has created six chalet suites while preserving the area's long history: the Birgkarhaus was first documented around 1850, when it served as a shelter for mountaineers seeking refuge. Through the redesign, it has become a light-filled retreat featuring natural wood, fine linen and woven wicker. The chalet suites can be used flexibly - as a spacious home for families with children or groups of friends, or as a retreat for two. Each suite has its own private garden with a sauna cabin and stainless-steel hot pot. Host Birgit Burgschwaiger personally takes care of every guest.
