Background information
Set in a secluded location at 850 metres above sea level, the four-star superior Hotel Bergkristall in Oberstaufen is a unique retreat that combines its Allgäu heritage with contemporary design and untouched nature. Following an extensive renovation and expansion, the resort, which is run by the Lingg family in its third generation, has been welcoming guests since summer 2025 with its expanded Kristall Spa, exclusive cosmetics line and a two-storey fitness area. As one of Bavaria’s leading wellness destinations, the hotel impresses with its 3,700-square-metre spa area as well as highlights including the outdoor infinity pool and a spacious event outdoor sauna overlooking the hotel’s private wildlife park and its resident stag Hansi. Spacious, filled with natural light and characterised by warm natural materials, the six new Seesuites, opened in April 2026, feature private saunas, hanging beds on their generous terraces and a private jetty leading directly into the mountain lake. From August 2026, six exclusive Bergsuites will complement the new building, offering maximum luxury and privacy Culinarily, Bergkristall delights with regional roots while avoiding the heaviness often associated with traditional local cuisine. Bavarian-inspired, French-influenced and united through craftsmanship, the culinary concept stands for mindful enjoyment with a sense of lightness. In spring and autumn, Bergkristall also offers “Schroth fasting” retreats featuring gentle, low-stimulation and vegan alkaline cuisine.
