Background information
The small town of Berching is located 60 kilometres south of Nuremberg in the heart of the Upper Palatinate Jura. This is where the Engelwirt Hotel & Apartments are located, a building ensemble consisting of two modern houses and two parts of a building dating back to 1686. 12 individually designed flats and three double rooms inspire with an interior design of antiques and contemporary art. The Swiss architectural studio Dimanche by Tamara Henry and Mathieu Robitaille was responsible for planning the conversion. Sustainability also played an important role for the hosts Stephanie and Michael Zink. The buildings were connected to the district heating system of the town of Berching and a CO2-friendly cooling system was installed. The integrated photovoltaic modules on the listed roofs are a first of their kind in Bavaria. Surrounded by woods and meadows, extensive hiking and cycling trails invite you to explore. The Zink art gallery is also located in Waldkirchen, ten minutes away by car. The small town of Berching itself delights those interested in culture with a varied programme throughout the year.
