Background information
The trilingual and 25-kilometre-long Val Gardena with its three villages of Ortisei, S. Cristina and Selva in South Tyrol delights nature lovers, winter sports enthusiasts, summer visitors and culture vultures alike. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites, the Puez Geisler Nature Park, sunny Alpine pastures up to 2,518 meters, impressive mountains such as the Sella massif or the landmark, the 3,181-meter-high Sassolungo, frame the valley. On 300 days of sunshine a year, guests enjoy a mixture of tradition and handicrafts paired with enjoyable and sporty outdoor activities. The locals are very keen on sport. The villages have the highest density of world championship titles in South Tyrol, not only in alpine sports, but also in other sports, art and music. In the home of mountaineering legend Luis Trenker, the Ladin language and the woodcarving tradition are still deeply rooted today. The culinary offerings range from gourmet restaurants and traditional inns to cozy mountain huts. Guests can stay in vacation apartments, guesthouses, apartments and mountain chalets up to five-star hotels. The free Val Gardena Mobil Card gives holidaymakers unlimited travel on all public buses in the valley.
